Here are several more marquetry enquiries that we thought you may find of interest.
The marquetry items displayed on this page mainly consist of pictures that , although they are of very high quality, are not documented in our archives. If you can help us with some information on who created any of these works and any other relevant information regarding their history, would you be so kind as to contact us by clicking the link to the right of the pictures. Thanks for your help. |

Arlene owns this delightful picture of Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, Germany, but unfortunately she doesn't have much other information on it. Arlene believes it may be one of those Buchschmid & Gretaux series of marquetry pictures that were made in Germany in the 1950's to 60's. It is possible that this work is by them, but the fine work on the trees and foliage look even more delicate than the, presumably, saw cut Buchschmid & Gretaux pictures seem to be able to achieve. The fine work on this picture would rather presume that it has been a knife cut picture, which would mean that it may well be a "one off". If anyone can recognise the work or the signature (it may actually be the hand written title of the picture rather than a signature) and the seal on the reverse of the picture (which incorporates a tree design in its middle), would you help us update our archives by clicking the e-mail link on the right and letting us know just who this superb marquetry artist really is, thanks. To help with the identification it has "1868, Gustav Offenbach" included on the seal. The word "Wartburg" appears to be written in pencil. There is also some other indistinguishable wording included. |

John is the owner of this magnificent large marquetry picture which appears to depict a Germanic / Bavarian Castle located beside a lake. The picture again has the appearance of a Buchschmid & Gretaux work, but after very careful study of the piece we cannot locate the BG logo that Buchschmid & Gretaux usually place within their pictures. Some of their works do not actually incorporate a logo, but with a picture of this significance we feel they would certainly have added their "BG" to this one. Once again, if anyone feels they could help us out with some info on this picture, it would be very much appreciated. Just click the link on the right and help to enlighten the collective minds of your editorial team. |
